They may call it the "Land of the Pure," but Pakistan turns out to be anything but.
The Muslim country, which has banned content on at least 17 websites to block offensive and blasphemous material, is the world's leader in online searches for pornographic material, FoxNews.com has learned.
“You won’t find strip clubs in Islamic countries. Most Islamic countries have certain dress codes,” said Gabriel Said Reynolds, professor of Islamic Studies at the University of Notre Dame. “It would be an irony if they haven’t shown the same vigilance to pornography.”
So here's the irony: Google ranks Pakistan No. 1 in the world in searches for pornographic terms, outranking every other country in the world in searches per person for certain sex-related content.
Pakistan is top dog in searches per-person for "horse sex" since 2004, "donkey sex" since 2007, "rape pictures" between 2004 and 2009, "rape sex" since 2004, "child sex" between 2004 and 2007 and since 2009, "animal sex" since 2004 and "dog sex" since 2005, according to Google Trends and Google Insights, features of Google that generate data based on popular search terms.
The country also is tops -- or has been No. 1 -- in searches for "sex," "camel sex," "rape video," "child sex video" and some other searches that can't be printed here.
Google Trends generates data of popular search terms in geographic locations during specific time frames. Google Insights is a more advanced version that allows users to filter a search to geographic locations, time frames and the nature of a search, including web, images, products and news.
Pakistan ranked No. 1 in all the searches listed above on Google Trends, but on only some of them in Google Insights.
“We do our best to provide accurate data and to provide insights into broad search patterns, but the results for a given query may contain inaccuracies due to data sampling issues, approximations, or incomplete data for the terms entered,” Google said in a statement, when asked about the accuracy of its reports.
The Embassy of Islamic Republic of Pakistan did not reply to a request for an interview.
In addition to banning content on 17 websites, including islamexposed.blogspot.com, Pakistan is monitoring seven other sites -- Google, Yahoo, Bing, YouTube, Amazon, MSN and Hotmail -- for anti-Islamic content, the Associated Press reported in June.
But it’s not to censor the Pakistani people, Reynolds said. It’s to shut out the rest of the world.
“[It] could lead to conversion, which would undermine the very order of the state,” he said. “Part of protecting the society is making sure that there is no way it could be undermined in terms of foreign influences.”
Pakistan temporarily banned Facebook in May when Muslim groups protested the “Everybody Draw Muhammad Day” page, where users were encouraged to upload pictures of the Prophet Muhammad. The page remained on Facebook, but Pakistani users were unable to view it, said Andrew Noyes, manager of Facebook’s Public Policy Communication.
And while Pakistan is taking measures to prevent blasphemous material from being viewed by its citizens, pornographic material is “certainly” contradictory to Islam, too, Reynolds said.
The country’s punishment for those charged with blasphemy is execution, but the question remains what -- if anything -- can be done about people who search for porn on the Web.
“It’s a new phenomenon,” Reynolds said.

The trend is something that is verifiable on trends.google.com. However it points out an important social issue within our society. We have always been a sex starved nation and recently the media has "subtly" been hammering in some sort of arousal for the nation. It's human behaviour, nothing to be ashamed about. We all get horny, but no one talks about it, it's a taboo subject, pushed indoors and considered very private so our population seeks gratification and internet porn is that gratification.
ReplyDeleteBut the attempt to single out and crucify Pakistan is another "FOX-ian" thing to do. There are other countries on the google trends list and Pakistan there is no mention of the fact that Alexa.com lists the top 100 websites visited from Pakistan, only 9 have erotic content and out of those 6 have hardcore pornography. Not just that, the google trends repot as of today, does not even list Pakistan in the top 10 searches for "sex". Not just that the other keywords listed by the author show a whopping 3 searches from Pakistan, clearly enough to label Pakistani's as perverts(Sarcasm). The author neglects to mention that google trends also lists the websites the searches were directed to... ominously, most of them are news articles on some the sensitive subjects.
This article is a one sided look at a 3D picture, not even properly fact checked. It is a shameful display of bad journalism and an attempt to slander Pakistani. The FOXian author should refrain form blatantly misrepresenting data to serve her own purposes.
My Conclusion: This article is a fallacy that is out of context. If you don't believe me check for yourselves http://trends.google.com
This article was published on the basis of Google Trends statistics (http://www.google.com/trends). Before agreeing or disagreeing with this ruthless presentation of supposed facts in this article, which is directly targeting the values of Pakistani people by calling them “Pornistani”. To arrive at any proclamation, we must precisely observe the claim of writer through the statistics provided by the Google-Trends and the intentions and objectives of Kelli Morgan and FoxNews might want to achieve.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people, even in Pakistan might think the presented fact and figures confirms the claims of FoxNews writer and they accept Pakistanis are No. 1 Nation in Sexy Web Searches in all over the world, but you will have to wait for scrutinizing the information in little more depth.
Although, the search confirms the article’s statistics, but it doesn’t mean it is 100% true, it is basically wicked presentation of statistical information. Let me justify my statement, as according to Internet World Stats (http://www.internetworldstats.com/asia.htm#pk) more than 11% of Pakistani population uses the internet which is approximately 18.5 million users and most of them live in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad Rawalpindi, Multan Faisalabad and Sialkot. Whereas, there are very few internet users in Peshawar and Quetta as compare to other and cities of Pakistan, but the Google Trends shows, the highest numbers in such searches are from Peshawar (http://www.google.com.pk/trends?q=sex&date=all&geo=pak&ctab=0&sort=0&sa=N). The Internet World States also confirms, there would be utmost 152,762 users in Peshawar due to low literacy and poverty. So it would be so pitiable and feeble interpretation of data which lethally imposes the analysis of such insignificant statistics over the 172 million people of Pakistan, because if one assumes 100% Internet users from Peshawar are involved in such awful addiction, how this fragile assumption can be compared with billions of users from all over the world for proving Pakistan as “Pornistan”.
Furthermore, if you thoroughly observe the Google-Trend’s Statistics City-wise (http://www.google.com/trends?q=sex&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0), Indian city Delhi is on Top. India has about 81 million regular internet users from which 1.34 million (approx 1,324,182) lives in Dehli, so the question is, which is the greater number either 152,762 or 1.34 million? Obviously 1.34 million, but the writer falsely declared Pakistan is on Top. Actually, it is the total game of numbers, which clearly demonstrates the Fox-News hatred with Islam and Muslim World, especially with Pakistan.
Moreover, there is no doubt the Google is world’s largest search-engine. The fundamental technique used behind all search-engines is full-text-indexed searching algorithms, which can give ranking for keyword searches on the basis of different types of statistics counters. Without commenting on the creditability of Google-Trends statistics, the preciseness of such statistics cannot be acclaimed for proving any nations’ behavior trend without confirm data’s trustworthiness with all parameter, which doesn’t seem in abovementioned searches. If one expresses so, the argument of blog googlestatistics (http://googlestatistics.com) would be accepted as it presented against Google’s keyword searches.
However, a number of Pakistanis especially from youth, have actually been engaged in surfing free available pornographic material on internet as other counties’ citizens, but this is highly immoral act of Kelli Morgan and FoxNews and a pathetic and hopeless attempt to prove the whole Pakistani people as frustrated addictive of porn material.
i don't understand why western media is against Pakistan..and quoting a countries name like this is the limit of unethical journalism, according to http://www.gmu.edu/depts/unilife/sexual/brochures/worldstats2005.pdf, it is estimated that 1 in 3 American woman will be sexually assaulted in her lifetime. based on this i should call USA as United States of Rapists!!. is Fox news trying to justify the issue of sketches made by Danish News paper?? plus watching porn is different from making fun of a Religion or religious figures.(Muhammad Raheel)

ReplyDeleteThis article is basically showing hatred of western media towards the Muslim nation, especially Pakistan by just blaming us giving the false and fabricated stats.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if on this point we accept their shown statistics, the main question is that WHO ARE THE CONTENT GENERATOR? WHO ARE THE MAINTAINERS OF THESE SITES? And above all WHO ARE THE DOERS?????And the obvious answer is the Western world. They are the people involved not only in uploading this kind of nasty stuff, but also maintaining and propagating these websites by using hundreds of techniques and generating big revenues. THEN WHY TO BLAME ONLY THE VIEWERS??
According to INDIA TIMES “Google has officially denied the accuracy of its search trends that claimed Pakistan is the world's leader in online searches for pornographic material”.
According to Dawn.com, Internet Service Provider Association of Pakistan has also declared statistics regarding pornography in Pakistan as flawed. Google's public affairs head of South-East Asia said that the statistics were based on limited data therefore they cannot be regarded as final opinion.
It was previously claimed that the country's top searches include terms like 'horse sex', 'donkey sex', 'rape pictures', and 'child sex'.
In Pakistan, there are eight million users of Internet, which makes only five per cent of the country's total population.
I also want to mention the fact that our class fellow MUHAMMAD OWAIS RIZVI posted the same comment on the FOX NEWS website, which he posted above…and it was removed the very next day…so it is obvious that this is an open conspiracy of Fox News to defame Pakistan.
i really dont know n even having no words to say all about it i fing ix jx bull shit an open conspiracy:(
ReplyDeleteI dont understand why do western media point out on Muslim countries a lot, specially on Pakistan. Since all these trends are proved to be wrong its proved that people are just taking their hatred out by calling us such stupid things!!!
ReplyDeleteIts all rubbish, even the TV channel FOX is not a reliable news channel. The foreign media is totally biased and they are against Islam especially Pakistan. They always spread news against Pakistan. It should be protest on Government level.

ReplyDeleteThe Western world and Media is creating such environment that makes our people frustrated, by all means, and then capitalizing their low scope limited reactions to negetivley portrey our nation's picture!!
ReplyDeletethat leads to more internal fruistrations... these moves are just to make more damages to our nation's moral values!! (that is already weak enough)
