Network is director’s Sidney Lumet’s amazing stroke of genius depicting the hollow world of television journalism where entertainment and short-term ratings are more crucial than quality. It shows that all that matters in TV journalism is the ratings, no matter the quality at which they are received. Howard Beale, the aging UBS news anchor, has lost his once strong ratings share and so the network fires him. Beale reacts in an unexpected way, and that is ruthlessly manipulated and used by his boss.
Beale, once the popular news anchor of UBS, is seeing his fortunes slip lately. His best friend and head of network, Max, tells him that he has been given a two-week notice. Beale then anounces on national television that he will blow out his brains on TV in a week’s time. This enrages the network and they fire him immediately. But Beale says that he was not in his right mind and apologises for such behavior. The new boss, Diana, sees Beale as the universal remedy to the network’s decline in ratings.
She is interested in counter-establishment programming and launches a show featuring Beale. Diana is interested in ratings whereas Max wants to preserve his reputation as a news man with integrity and Beale tries to convince both of them that he is connected with higher powers which is making him seem insane. Diana feels that if these powers increase the network’s ratings so be it. Despite their outward differences, Diana and Max start a romance which mars Max’s conscience as he’s faithfully married for twenty-five years.
The movie brilliantly shows where today’s journalism is leading to. The hard reality is evident that all that matters today is the TRPs and not the quality that is bieng delivered to the audience. The fact that a lot of insanity and extra-ordinary features are attractive to the general public is used through out the television industry and no thought to its affect is given, only the fact that how many people watch a show is all that matters.

Journalism vs Activism
The terms of journalism and activism have always been hand in hand through out the history of a country and are as such an active part of our society presently. Though vastly different in their objective definition, one can not do without the other. Activism brings about intentional action to bring about political, economical, environmental or cultural change and journalism investigates and reports issues, events and trends to a broad audience. Hence the success of an activist depends on the fact that how many people around the world are aware of their actions.
Although journalism, ideally, should tend to inform the citizenry of what is happening around them but now-a-days it is tinted with personal views and subjectivity. Activism is not necessarily done on a large scale that is intended to bring about world wide change but can also be a simple initiative taken by somebody to cause a ripple of change or awareness in an otherwise ignorant society.
The role of journalism is to act as a medium between public and policy making establishments. Albiet one can account for the freedom of speech to the appearance of personal views in journalism but the fact remains that only the real truth should be told so that the public does not get affected by negative or harassing comments. In today's world activism is slowly dying a slow death for in reality how many of us have heard of a person taking the effort to bring about even the minutest of change for the betterment of fellow human beings.
Typically activism maintains that people need to transform from the inside as well as on the outside to bring about any meaningful change in the world. Journalism’s main obligation is to tell the truth and relate it to the public as it is without adding or subtracting any fact even if it is for the benefit of the people.
So even they are vastly different terms and have such a different representation, they are still somehow connected and dependent upon each other. What activists do needs to be delivered to thw world and that is the job of journalism.

Copyrights
Legal right giving exclusive rights for a limited time within a territory to creative works of authorship fixed in any tangible medium of expression. Copyrights protect EXPRESSION – not ideas, procedures, processes, systems, concepts, principles, discoveries, methods of operation, or mathematical concepts. Copyright only protects against copying and derivative works - independent creation not prohibited.Copyrights have traditional been important for book publishers, record companies and movie studios. In the past few decades, Copyrights have become important for technology companies, particularly start-ups, because software is protected by Copyrights.
• Often, Copyright is the only viable way to protect the software. It is the easiest, cheapest and quickest to obtain.
Obtaining a Copyright
Source of Copyright is a federal statute, specifically Title 17 of the United States Code Copyright is obtained simply by fixing the work of authorship in a tangible medium of expression Note - Copyright and ownership of the physical medium are different; owner of physical medium only gets rights given by copyright owner Verbal expression (e.g., business speech) is NOT protected no matter how long or complicated Work - needs to be written down for fixed in tangible medium of expression ,Why professional comedian writes down jokes before telling them
Life of Copyright
If person, life of author + 50 years
If work for hire/employment, 95 years

Journalism vs Activism
Journalism is investigating and reporting of events, issues and trends to a target audience. The main point of being a journalist is to find out and report factual events and happenings that take place in the society. The journalistic reporting actually reflection of the society and state.
Activism, in a general sense, can be described as intentional action or inaction to bring about social or political change. This action is in support of, or opposition to, one side of an often controversial argument.Journalism is always based on true facts & figure because this thing will serve as information for the end newspaper users.Journalists need to be impartial, objective, fair and balanced. At what point does a journalist become an activist? If a journalist does an investigative piece, it often leads to others acting. Every journalist knows s/he can have that impact. Indeed, not covering a story can lead to community inaction on an issue. It seems somewhat unavoidable

Support for the International Copyright system
Copyrights are exclusive rights and ownership granted to the author or creator of an original work. Copyrights first were for the copying of books and then extended to translations, maps, paintings, photographs, sound recordings/music, films and computer software. I support the framework for copyright use by the international world. I believe that the artists/writers/musician and businesses etc should profit from their works. It is the duty of the publishers/producers and governments to protect the financial rights of the creator of media and all copyrighted materials.
Since the Internet has spread information and all content, video, text, images, books and all data that is digital, the copyright framework is threatened because the amount of pirated and illegal distribution of copyrighted material is higher now than ever before. I believe copyrights should be enforced but it is almost impossible in the way movies/music etc are downloaded and sold. The western and eastern governments need to work together to protect the copyrights of materials.
I believe that the western nations should help make the Eastern world stronger and if they continue to use us as markets for their copyrighted materials and withdraw cash and resources from the eastern region. It is the job of the international governments and artists and creators of copyrighted material to spread the rewards of entertainment and business profits with the developing world that are vast markets for resources and cheap labor and have been made this way by the dominance of international governments and through the use of copyrights.
Building schools and social development need to be aided by the profits from the copyrights in media and Internet in the world. Development and social change are important and so are the protections of the artist and creator of all books/media/art etc. The international governments should help create change at a grass roots level to continue cooperation with the Eastern world so they respect and work with their copyright laws because this adds billions of dollars a year to the US and Europe etc.

Journalism and Activism
Journalism investigates to report events including social, local and world issues to citizens of the world. Governments, businesses, Arts and culture and the day-to-day opinions of people are influenced by journalism. Politics, war, entertainment, markets and the movement of society is documented and verified by journalists. Editors, documentary filmmakers and photojournalists also serve media companies and news organizations.
Activism is intended action for the purpose of social, political, economic and environmental change. Activists take sides on important issues such as war, human rights, workers rights, women’s rights, abortion, poverty and race issues. Protest and dissent are also forms of activism and sometimes guerrilla war but influence has been greatest for Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., and Che Guevara. Activists write letters to politicians, newspapers and lead economic boycotts. They lead rallies, street marches, hunger strikes work strikes and activists have helped the world develop it’s freedoms. There are religious activists and intellectuals as well as famous people who use their fame to help the world.
News media and mass media inform the world about change and form opinions and report world affairs. The Internet has revolutionized news media and publishing and many newspapers and magazines have shut down or extended to online editions. Journalism and activism both attempt to aid society and influence values and the situations of the world.
Elites and government have often controlled the Press and Journalists to maintain power. Democracy and the international community protect journalists but many die in war torn territories and for their careers. Journalists are watchdogs for governments and international and local organizations. Activists face arrests, deportations and executions in extreme cases as well as seizure of their property. Activists and journalists both serve the same noble purpose, which is to promote human life and human rights.
