Journalism vs Activism

Journalism is investigating and reporting of events, issues and trends to a target audience. The ideal aim of a journalist is to investigate and report factual events and happenings that take place in a society. The journalistic reporting is aimed at being a reflection of a society and state facts as facts. Activism consists of deliberate act to bring about shared, political, financial or environmental change. This action is in support of, or opposition to, one side of an often controversial dispute. Mostly, activism is a term associated with actions and reaction and ideologies of a conflicting party. Journalism is what is expected of a news channels and their journalists, hosts, and an extended team alike. However, in today’s times most of channels and their stakeholders are involved in activism more than fulfilling their journalistic responsibilities. The lines between stating a facts and putting across an opinions are constantly being blurred across most mediums, especially electronic media. But somehow I agree in our environment of media where there is nothing ethically wrong, activism plays a very vital role in educating people about certain issues , like Sialkot incident is a best example of activism, there is no journalist present over there, it is the activist who make this issue public and generate their awareness in such matter so that they can save many just by educating them of their surrounding.
