PEMRA Ordinance

Prior to PEMRA ordinance, I think and see that people who are attached to broadcast and advertising businesses are learned people and have good understanding of their field, Pakistan’s culture, politics, condition and population. Then why there is a need of control when they all know what they are doing, where, for whom and how to do. This is a question mark according to me especially for News and Current Affair journalists. Journalism is a serious and sensitive business; they must need to understand their limitations. I don’t think we need any ordinance to control so called learned people related to Broadcast Business.

When I look at over all media and advertising according to the PEMRA ordinance I see that many of our journalists are bias, do not take National interest or security in to account, selling masala, encourages violence and increase frustration level in the minds of people living in this State.

Questioning our Government is out of question now, but if we look at media (entertainment, infotainment or news) they all are not justifying their business, people who are watching are getting affected by such programming, they are losing their cultural, religious and social values as we see this happening in our daily life; Murder of two brothers, increasing n umber of sexual harassment cases, children involved in drugs, sex and other social crimes!!

Government is done with their job after making rules and regulations, I agree with the fact that they don’t implement them, but we as media people we know our job, if we can perform our job within ethical norms there is no need of PEMRA Ordinance.

Muhammad Raheel
