PEMRA

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) is a regulatory body established by Pakistan on 1 March 2002.

Functions of a Authority

The Authority is responsible for facilitating and regulating a establishment and operation of all private broadcast media and distribution services in Pakistan established for a purpose of international, national, provincial, district, and local or special target audiences.
PEMRA's Mandate: they need to Improve a standards of information, education and entertainment and to ensure accountability, transparency and good governance by optimization a free flow of information.

But in my opinion they are not working properly, according to the point 27 of the ordinance:

27, Prohibition of broadcasts or CTV operation: The Authority shall by order, giving reasons in writing for declaring the order, prohibit any broadcaster or CTV operator from broadcasting or re-broadcasting or distributing any programme if it is of opinion that such particular programme is likely to create hatred among the people or is prejudicial to the maintenance of law and order or likely to disturb public peace and tranquility or endangers national security

There are so many shows and the packaging of the news which create chaos and restlessness among people living in Pakistan and people living outside the country.

Recently, I saw a video of 2 bomb blast 1 in Quetta and the other in Lahore. These channel show you the real bomb blast video so that people can feel the impact and through this they create panic among those also who are just sitting at home and watching it... why the hell they are showing it and why PEMRA is allowing them to show rated video don’t know..But right now PEMRA need to read their point 27 again and have to take some strict action against such broadcasters
